Privacy Policy

At The CANADA List, your privacy matters. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices available to you. Optional analytics stays off until you give permission.

1. Information We Collect

• Analytics and Usage Data: With your permission, we use Google Analytics 4 to measure pages visited, normalized search terms (including searches with no results), filters, navigation categories, clicks, outbound link domains, scrolling, and form-submission events. Form-submission events do not include the information entered into forms. We also measure which products are included in a list, which become visible on screen, and which are clicked, along with their list positions. Analytics may process cookie identifiers, device, browser and approximate geographic information. These records can distinguish repeat visits and are treated as privacy-sensitive, rather than anonymous. We do not send form contents, account identifiers or full destination URLs to analytics. Suspected contact details and long pasted searches are withheld; please do not enter personal information into site search.
• Newsletter Signups: Signing up for our newsletter is voluntary. You only need to provide an email address. We do not require your name or other personal details. We use Brevo as our newsletter platform and CRM to manage subscriber records, deliver newsletters, and track newsletter engagement such as opens and clicks. We do not sell, rent, or trade newsletter subscriber information.
• Contact and Submission Forms: If you provide your contact information through any form on our website—including product submissions, support requests, or donation forms—we may retain your information. By submitting your email or other contact details through these forms, you agree that we may use this information to contact you regarding your submission, and occasionally add you to our newsletter or updates list. You can unsubscribe or opt out at any time.
• Email Communications: We may use AI services, such as OpenAI, to organize and summarize emails and help prepare responses. We take steps to remove identifying details before sharing email content. We do not use this content to train AI models or authorize our providers to do so. Where supported, we disable response storage, but providers may still retain data for security or abuse monitoring under their own retention policies.
• Technical and Security Data: Our hosting provider may keep request and security logs, including IP addresses, browser details and requested pages, to operate and protect the site. Some pages also load services such as Google reCAPTCHA, externally hosted fonts and other resources. Their providers receive technical information needed to deliver those services. These requests are separate from optional Google Analytics and may occur even when analytics is declined.

2. How We Use Your Information

• To operate and improve the website
• To understand how visitors use the site and newsletters
• To develop media kits, set placement prices, and measure sponsored or affiliate placement performance using aggregate reports
• To respond to your inquiries or submissions
• To send you occasional emails if you subscribe, or if you have submitted your contact information via any site form (you can unsubscribe at any time)

3. Cookies

Analytics stays off until you choose Allow cookies, or choose Manage settings and Save settings with analytics enabled. Simply opening settings does not start tracking. To decline, choose Necessary only, or turn analytics off and save. You can change your choice later using Cookie settings in the footer. Withdrawal stops future measurement and attempts to remove accessible Google Analytics cookies; it does not erase records already collected. Global Privacy Control and Do Not Track automatically disable analytics. Advertising storage, advertising personalization and Google Signals are disabled.

Necessary site preferences, such as language and your cookie choice, are stored separately from analytics. Your cookie choice is remembered in local storage for up to 180 days. If permitted, Google Analytics uses first-party cookies configured to expire after 90 days, renewed with activity. These time limits apply to storage on your device, not to the analytics records described below.

4. Data Sharing

We do not sell, rent, or trade your information to third parties.
We use service providers, including Google Analytics, Google BigQuery, Brevo and OpenAI, for the purposes described in this policy. Analytics records may be exported to Google BigQuery for detailed analysis. Only aggregate performance reports, not individual browsing histories, are shared with advertisers. Some providers may process personal information outside Canada, where it may be subject to local laws. Selecting a Canadian storage location for BigQuery does not mean all provider processing takes place in Canada.

5. Confidentiality

We take reasonable steps to protect your information and limit access to those who need it for the purposes described here. No method of internet transmission or storage is completely secure.

We retain personal information only for as long as reasonably necessary to fulfil the purposes for which it was collected and to meet applicable legal and operational requirements.

Analytics retention is separate from cookie expiry. Google Analytics records are retained according to our property settings. Exported BigQuery records currently have no automatic expiry and remain until deleted. Expiring cookies or withdrawing consent does not automatically delete these records. You can contact us about information we hold about you.

6. Your Rights & Choices

• You can unsubscribe from our newsletter at any time using the link in any email.
• You can request access to, correction of, or deletion of personal information we hold about you, or withdraw consent for its use, by emailing info@thecanadalist.com. We may need to verify your identity, and some information may need to be retained for legal requirements. We may not be able to link analytics records to you without additional information.
• You can decline or withdraw optional analytics through Cookie settings in the footer and continue using the site.

7. International Users

The CANADA List is intended primarily for Canadian users. If you visit from another country, the data handling and service providers described in this policy still apply.

8. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy as practices change. The date at the top will always show when it was last revised.
